Epic Adventure -- Day 10 -- 08/09/2012 -- Blouberg

This morning Chantel, Karl, Jenny and I awoke with varying degrees of hangovers. Mine probably the worst. We took a little while to mobilise before heading out for a much needed coffee and breakfast. We decided that Jenny would drive the land rover today so we could figure out if anything was wrong with the car before we journey too far away from Doug. The decision to have Jenny drive may have had something to do with the fact that I was too hungover to do anything, let alone drive.

Our first port of call was the Old Biscuit Mill, where we stopped for some sandwiches and drinks before exploring the seemingly endless food stalls. Jenny ordered french toast, bacon and honey. We even managed to find a stall that sold tuna biltong. There were endless food choices, and we honestly could have spent the entire day eating there. Towards the end of our visit we stopped in a shop that sold amazing furniture, including a beautiful 12 foot dining table for 25,000 rand. I wanted to get a photo of the table with the price tag to remember it in case we found ourselves with that much money to spend on a table. The owner of the shop shouted at us for taking photos so we left, unlikely to buy from his shop, his loss.

After breakfast we travelled to Blouberg to find a spa that Jenny and Chantel wanted to visit where they have fish that eat dead skin off of your feet. I should mention that rather engage in this seemingly strange behaviour Karl and I were planning on drinking in the meantime. However the woman who runs the shop was not answering any of our calls and we couldn't seem to find the exact location of the spa, so instead we found a pub called the Boogie Bar that was showing the rugby and settled down for some 'hair of the dog' drinks. A woman at the bar came up to our table and presented us with a sheet where you could guess the final score of the rugby free of charge, if your guess was correct you won a bottle of brandy. Needless to say nearly all the guesses were for SA beating Australia. Jenny spent most of the time during the match writing the blog post about yesterday and left during halftime to charge the iPad in the car.

While Jenny was away Chantel and I were glancing towards the door every so often to see if she was returning. On one such occasion we both turned towards the door in time to see a man seated at a neighbouring table push himself back on his stool and the stool gave way under him; sending the man, the parts of the stool, drinks and fags crashing towards the bar in a chaotic mess! Our timing could not have been better! I also spotted a wall-mounted breathalyser near the toilets in the pub (what a great idea).

In the end Australia beat SA 26-19 and we departed from the Boogie Bar. We drove a bit further down the coast and parked the car so we could have ashore walk along the beach on our way to Moyo, another bar located closer to the beach. The bar had several tables situated just as you entered that were placed over a foot deep pool of water so you could sit and have drinks with your feet dangling in the water and an open front view to the sea. We had one drink each and got our faces painted for free before departing for dinner at a restaurant just up the way.

We walked back up the beach to the Blue Peter Hotel and took a seat on the grass, it was absolutely jam packed, both the tables and the grass outside. The view of the sea and of table mountain was spectacular, and although the wind as a little chilly the sun was warm. We ended up waiting ages for the pizzas (because they were so busy) but they were totally worth the wait!! My pizza had chicken, bacon, onion and cheese, and there were so many toppings you couldn't see the base! Dan opted for a chilli beef pizza, but the chilli was not spread around so well, so he had a mouthful of hot at one point and I had to go get him a Fanta :)

The drive back to Chantel's flat was just as smooth as the drive out, the car drives like an angel! Dan and I were going to go out to watch the latest Batman film with Chantel and Karl but I had gotten a bit sunburnt so was super tired when we got home, and Dan was too tired to watch a 3 hour film, so we lay down for a nap on Chantel's bed and woke up at 11pm! Needless to say we slept really well that night :D
