Epic Adventure -- Day 2 -- 31/08/2012 -- Dubai

So after enjoying several (10-12) beers with Bob outside in the garden after the braai last night, Jenny and I retired for possibly the best nights’ sleep I have had in a long time. We enjoyed sleeping in until a little after 10:00 this morning, by which time we were thoroughly rested. We had planned this lie-in as Friday’s are the UAE’s Sunday’s, and waited for Jenny’s aunt’s sister to arrive to join us for a late brunch. I spent intermediate 3 hours reading Bill Bryson’s Down Under where he describes his adventures in the Australian outback. Among his topics of conversation was the intense heat that he described as ‘up t 48C’, I sat reading his descriptions in 42C direct sunlight and could not help but sympathise. The brunch was so tasty, a full English breakfast in Dubai =D

The remainder of the day was fairly unremarkable and involved a 3 hour nap shortly after our brunch. It seems that our travels took more out of us than we thought and we required significant recovery. At about 17:00 we stirred from our nap and spent most of the evening on the front porch of the house, Jenny is cautious of the extreme heat and sun but I am trying to spend as much time as possible basking in it. We decided once the sun had started to set to walk the 10 minutes to the nearby beach to have a look, and dip our toes into the water – it’s really warm! I can’t imagine that being refreshing during the day, but at least Wild Wadi, the water park we are going to on Sunday, has water coolers =D

So another 9 or so beers followed and Bob, Jenny and I enjoyed another great evening of warmth, conversation and drink – I think I’m really starting to like Dubai.
