Epic Adventure -- Day 11 -- 09/09/2012 -- Cape Town

Even though Jenny and I fell asleep very early last night while Chantel and Karl went to see batman we still slept until 8:00, a good solid 12 hours of sleep! We leisurely gathered ourselves before chowing down left over pizza from last night and headed for the waterfront in Cape Town. This was our destination of choice because of the shopping, and because Chantel had a voucher for 2-4-1 gourmet burgers at a restaurant on the harbour.

Before we sat down to lunch the couples decided to split for a little bit of shopping. Jenny headed straight for the jewellery shops and her attention was immediately captivated by tanzanite tennis bracelets; so much so that we ended up losing Chantel and Karl for about half an hour. We spent the next 10 minutes wandering from shop to shop trying to find them before we regrouped and headed for lunch.

The restaurant in question was called Karibu. The burgers sounded amazing and it took us quite a while to choose between beef, kudu, ostrich, biltong, lamb or salmon. In the end Jenny and I got 1 ostrich and 1 kudu burger to share and so did Chantel and Karl. We also decided that 12:00 was not too early to start drinking and enjoyed a VERY nice bottle of Fleur du Cap 2010 Merlot with lunch.

We then said goodbye to Karl and Chantel for the remainder of the day. Chantel had some work to do in the afternoon so we were going to wander about the shopping district for a while while she attended to her job. We stated by walking around the craft market where about 100 vendors were selling their own original artwork and crafts. Jenny found a vendor that was selling miniature figures done by his wife Fay. Jenny and her mom have been collecting some of the miniatures for years and it was nice to find the same man in the same stall he has been in for quite a while. We also found several works of art that we wish we had the money to buy!

Once we left the craft area we returned to the mall on the waterfront and I spotted a watch in the window of a jewellery shop that I loved. I knew it was too expensive but Jenny convinced me to go inside, ask the woman about it, and try it on. The watch was a Tag Heuer aquaracer which I immediately wanted. Unfortunately it fell outside of our price range at 20,000 rand. That amount tends to be the price of everything we have seen so far that we desperately want, we just need to be a bit more wealthy :D. There was also an amazing marimba band that was playing at the water front, who we are going to ring to see if we can afford to have them play at the wedding!

We went for coffee and tea at a little cafe that had wifi, and tried to fix the photographs on the blog, but the iPad doesn't like the formatting of blogger so we will have to fix that when we can get Internet and the NetBook in the same place.

We the tried to buy some wine for Chantel to say thank you for having us, but unfortunately Pick n Pay stops selling booze at 6:00pm on Sundays! the sat nav took us safely back to Chantel's flat and we watched the movie The Transporter on tv and ate some really yummy chops that Chantel cooked for us, and went off to sleep :)
