Epic adventure -- Day 8 -- 06/09/2012 -- The Sky
We awoke this morning at 5:50 Dubai time for our 9 hour flight to Cape Town. This was to be the longest single haul flight I have ever done and I was not looking forward to the experience. We figured because Jenny had her wedding dress with her as a carry-on we would have a good chance of being upgraded, plus asking never hurts. So we asked the girl at check-in if there was any chance of being upgraded to what the airlines like to call a 'more comfortable seat'. She told us that economy class was not full enough and they would not need to upgrade anyone. So we asked at the boarding desk and were told the same thing. So we asked when we boarded and were told the same thing. Normally this would not bother either of us, but between us Jenny and I have flown 50 flights (and spent probably £20,000 with Emirates) and have never been upgraded. You would think they would do us the favour of upgrading us on the way to our wedding, when there are 4 free seats we could see in business, but clearly that was too much to ask!
After watching about 1,000 films we landed in Cape Town to meet Jenny's friend Chantel at the airport. She has graciously offered for us to stay with her for the first 4 days that we are in Cape Town. We arrived back at her house for a shower and to change before headed to the seaside for some sushi and drinks at Tuscany Beach Restaurant.
What we loved most about the restaurant, aside from the super amazing sushi, the inexpensive cocktails (I just kept ordering them while Chantel and Dan had beers) and food in comparison to the Uk, was that instead of having to pay for each round of drinks and food we could just keep ordering and run up a tab, which you can't do because of drinking laws in the UK :)
What followed was an amazing night of sleep :D
